Montreal police are asking the public to help solve a homicide in Ahuntsic-Cartierville from last June.
Police say they are looking for a grey Nissan Altima with tinted windows, and its driver.
Angelo D’Onofrio, 72, was gunned down around 4 p.m. on June 2, 2016, near the Sinatra Café (previously known as the Hillside Café) on Fleury St. E., near André-Jobin St.
D’Onofrio was transported to a hospital where he died an hour later, police said.
D’Onofrio’s gangland-style murder came one day before the funeral in Ahuntsic-Cartierville of Rocco Sollecito, a reputed high-ranking member of the Rizzuto crime family who was gunned down the previous month while driving his white BMW in Laval.
However, the homicide appears to have been a case of mistaken identity, police said Thursday.
“The person targeted by the shooting was not the intended victim,” police said in a statement. “That person was someone who regularly frequented the café at the time.”
Police are looking for a black man, weighing about 150 pounds and measuring 5-foot-5, with mid-length curly hair. He was wearing a grey-hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black sneakers with white laces.
