Man killed after car flees Pointe-Calumet Beachclub

Quebec’s Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes is investigating after a 66-year-old man was struck and killed by a car that was reportedly fleeing police after leaving the Pointe-Calumet Beachclub on Sunday.

According to information given to the BEI, a police officer with the Lac-des-Deux-Montagnes police force noticed a vehicle driving erratically at 3:30 p.m. outside the Beachclub, located about 30 kilometres northwest of downtown Montreal. The officer allegedly started following, at which point the car took off at high speed and the officer lost sight of the vehicle.

Citizens told two other police officers the direction the car had taken. Police found the car a few streets away, where it had collided with a hydro pole. Before it crashed, the car struck a 66-year-old man, killing him instantly, a statement from the BEI reported.

The 23-year-old driver and his two passengers were arrested and taken to hospital with minor injuries. Eight officers with the BEI department were on the scene as of 7 p.m. to investigate the incident, with the assistance of the Sûreté du Québec.

Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at their website at www.bei.gouv.qc.ca.

The BEI is an independent task force created by the province’s public security ministry to investigate any time a citizen is killed or seriously injured during a police intervention.
