Looking for something to do in Metro Vancouver? Here are three suggestions for the weekend of Aug. 26-27.
Vancouver Zombiewalk 2017
The summer heat can make one feel like a zombie, but if you want to go the extra mile, why not join Vancouver Zombiewalk and actually pretend you are one? The annual march, where people dress like the walking dead and lurch down Robson Street to English Bay, takes place Saturday. So scare up an outfit, smear fake blood all over your face, and pretend it’s Z-Day with hundreds of other horror movie fanatics.
It’s a fun, family-friendly event. Why, just look at how much fun this baby is having.
The event is free, but if you want to go the extra mile, you can pay SFX artists from Blanche Macdonald to do your makeup for you between 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. And if the march isn’t enough for you, there’s an after-party zombie prom at The Hindenburg in Gastown at 9 p.m.
Where: Vancouver Art Gallery, 750 Hornby St., Vancouver
When: Saturday, 12:30 p.m. assemble, 4 p.m. march
PNE Summer Concert: Huey Lewis and the News
Consider the Fair at the PNE a permanent recommendation. The food, the rides, the exhibits: it’s all great. But if you only go once, you should definitely go on Sunday, when Huey Lewis and the News takes the stage as part of the PNE’s summer concert series. Hip to Be Square! I Want a New Drug! Power of Love, the standout song from the Back to the Future soundtrack! So many fabulous songs.
Admittedly, it’s not quite the same as seeing the act in 1981, but I promise you: you won’t regret buying a ticket to this one, especially since the concert is free with your admission to the fair.
Where: PNE Amphitheatre, 2901 East Hastings St., Vancouver
When: Sunday (concerts begin at 8:30 p.m.)
Cost: FREE with PNE admission
Pet-A-Palooza is the Lower Mainland’s largest pet festival. What’s a pet festival? It’s just like any other festival, except you can bring your dog. Dogs love festivals!
Events taking place throughout the day include the Running of the Bulls, which is actually just French and English bulldog races, a puppy stampede, and wiener dog races. Plus there will be goodies for you and your dog, and all sorts of other dog enthusiasts to meet with or, if you’re a dog, invasively sniff.
Where: Yaletown, 1100 Mainland St., Vancouver
When: Sunday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
