“Thank god News at Ten is back too,” one fan of the news wrote on Twitter.
“Welcome back to the 10pm slot, old friend,” wrote another – with a further example coming in the example: “thank god thee news at ten is back on #itvnews @tombradby”.
Some were quick to stick the knife into The Nightly Show – which split viewers.
“Back to normal with #thenewsat10 thank god! You WON’T be missed #thenightlyshow,” one fan tweeted.
“So glad #thenightlyshow is DONE, welcome back #newsatten,” tweeted another.
While further fans expressed happiness at the news show return.
“Dear @ITV, please leave @NewsAtTen alone now. It was a big mistake over last eight weeks to move @tombradby @julieetchitv and co. Thank you,” wrote one.
“The News at Ten has returned tonight on @ITV, welcomed by many!Just proves the news is loved!” wrote another.
The Nightly Show could return for a second series.
It ran for eight weeks – kicking off on 27 February with a disastrous beginning as fans slammed week one host David Walliams.
David was blasted by fans for a wooden delivery – and even his own mother said she preferred the news when she was in his studio audience.
Other hosts fared better with Davina McCall and Dermot O’Leary both gaining praise from viewers.
The final episode aired on Friday 21 April with Dermot back for a second week – however ratings had dipped.
There has been speculation the X Factor host could return to host the show as a permanent front man in a second series – with a different time slot to avoid a News at Ten clash.
