Coronation Street’s Rob Donovan hands himself in to save Tracy Barlow from falsely confessing to trying to kill dad Ken

ROB Donovan has dramatically handed himself in to save lover Tracy Barlow from a life behind bars in Coronation Street.

The killer of Tina McIntyre – who is played by actor Marc Baylis – has been on the run since a car accident gave him the chance to escape prison, but after realising Tracy was facing life behind bars, he gave up his freedom and burst into the court to give her an alibi.

Viewers now know that Tracy only confessed to pushing her adopted dad down the stairs out of fears her own daughter Amy had tried to kill him.

But with Rob being her alibi for the night, Tracy was faced with the realisation that she couldn’t retract her confession even if she wanted to, but Rob arrived just in time to save her.

Bursting into the courtroom as she was about to enter her plea, Rob told her: “Tracy, you can’t do this. You can’t confess to something you haven’t done.”

“I know why you’re doing this but you don’t have to,” he added, revealing Amy was safely at home and hadn’t tried to kill Ken.

“I called when I heard about all this and she told me everything. She’s just an innocent kid, you are no guiltier than that 13-year-old who’s waiting for you to get home and I’m here now, you don’t have to protect me.

“We were together, in her shop, when Ken was hurt, for 20 minutes. How could she have hurt her dad if she was with me. Check theCCTV.”

“I want to retract my confession,” Tracy then said. “I didn’t do it.”

"After I escaped the prison van, I knew I was a marked man," Rob told the police in the interview room.

"The only person I could think of going to for help was my sister so I pitched up on Coronation Street. That's when I saw Tracy."

However, despite the CCTV from the florist confirming Tracy had an alibi, she was still sent to the cells to stop her release.

But with Rob handing himself in and helping the police uncover the villains in prison, he was given time with Tracy in her cell before they would be separated forever.
