EastEnders’ Charlie Cotton drops bombshell that he’s already remarried as he returns to Walford for son Matthew

CHARLIE Cotton has returned to EastEnders with a bombshell – he’s already remarried.

The son of dead Nasty Nick – who is played by actor Declan Bennett- was last seen in the square in September 2015 when he left wife Ronnie Mitchell out of fear for his life but now she’s dead, he’s back and he revealed how busy he’d been.

Speaking to his grandmother Dot after his shock return, Charlie had more shocks in store when he confessed that he’d moved on from Ronnie and was happy in a new relationship.

“I should have come back sooner and if I had any idea that Ronnie had died,” he said.

“Moving to Galway and meeting Liz was the best thing I ever did but leaving Matthew was the worst.

“There isn’t a single day that’s gone by where I haven’t thought about him.”

Charlie doesn’t realise Max’s sick plans

Charlie’s ex Ronnie Mitchell died on New Year’s Day as she drowned alongside sister Roxy in gruesome scenes.

However, Charlie’s return gave Max Branning another opportunity for his revenge as he used the situation to manipulate his brother Jack.

Convincing Charlie to stick around and help, he then told him to take his son for the night to Dot’s to give Jack a break.

But outside he grabbed Charlie and confessed that he was the one who orchestrated his return to Walford.

“He’s your son, of course you want to see him,” Max told him.

“That’s why I got Dot to call you.”

Max is turning into a deadly Walford villain

Then it became clear that Max had further plans for his brother and Charlie, hinting at more nefarious schemes.

"Look I don't want to have to do this but I've got a proposition for you," he told Charlie as the episode ended.
