BBC to repay £1million to customers as it pulls plug on flop download rival to Netflix

THE BBC is to repay £1million to users of its flop download rival to Netflix and Amazon — after confirming it is pulling the plug.

BBC Store let viewers pick TV from its archive for £1.89 per show.

The service will end from November 1 after which those who bought programmes will be unable to play them.

A spokesman said: “Demand has not been as strong as we hoped in a rapidly changing market.”

A BBC source confirmed the compensation bill will top £1million.
