Katy Perry resembles Coronation Street icon Deidre Barlow as she performs intimate gig at The Water Rats

KATY Perry looked to Coronation Street legend Deidre Barlow for her fashion choice tonight.

The Roar singer, 32, opted for a flamboyant style as she returned to The Water Rats pub in Kings Cross – the venue she made her UK debut in 10 years ago – for a special Capital gig.

She went for a huge pair of red rimmed shades reminiscent of the colourful Corrie character played by the late Anne Kirkbride.

Skipping out of the pub in a pair of baggy grey pleather trousers and red stilettos, the star certainly cut a quirky figure.

It was an emotional night for Katy, who became teary as she spoke about Monday night’s terror attack in Manchester.

Speaking to the crowd, she said: “This week has been really hard. It sucked. It was hard for you guys and it was hard for me because we all love music.

“We all listen to the same music. And you think about it and think that’s my friend, that’s my sister, that’s my cousin, that’s my brother.”

She then declared: “It’s awful. And whatever you can do to help, you should. And if you can’t do anything that’s fine. But what you should do is not let them win.”

Before singing her hit Part of Me, she added: “I’m going to sing this next song for them. They can never take that part from us ever. Ever.”

Just ahead of the song being performed, the crowd went into complete silence in a moment of remembrance for those lost.

A household regular since first appearing as fresh-faced Deirdre Hunt on Corrie aged just 17, Anne's on-screen character was married four times, had 13 lovers, was wrongly imprisoned for fraud, saw her only daughter jailed for murder and was
embroiled in a national campaign backed by millions – including the Prime Minister.

Her large framed glasses, chain smoking, scratchy voice and catchphrase “Oh Tracy!” all became a staple of the soap diet.

The popular actress sadly died from cancer in 2015, aged 60.
