Drunk woman ‘tried to burn her 11-year-old son ALIVE after locking him in the car boot and torching it because he was too fat’
A MUM has been accused of trying to burn her 11-year-old son alive in a car because he was too fat.
Sherri Richter, 48, is said to have torched the Ford Focus’ boot after tying the boy’s wrists and locking him inside the vehicle in a cemetery.
She reportedly then poured petrol inside the passenger area as the terrified lad struggled to free himself.
Richter finally released him and a cemetery worker cut the bindings from her son’s wrists.
He survived with minor injuries but his mum has been banged up on attempted murder and arson charges.
Richter is said to have set the car ablaze at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle Township, Michigan, US.
Court papers claim she was apparently drunk and committed the crime because the boy was overweight.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said: “The mother ignited a fire in the trunk of the vehicle with the boy still inside.

“The mother later attempted to ignite a fire using gasoline inside the passenger compartment where the boy sat.”
Officers swooped on the scene after a call from a man who said he was Richter’s 50-year-old husband and the boy’s dad.
He said his wife may have harmed the child and officers found smoke belching from the Ford Focus.
There was no sign of Richter or the boy, until cops found them in another part of the cemetery talking to staff.
Richter, of Frenchtown, is being held in jail on a $100,000 bond set by a judge “because of the severity of the charges and the possible consequences.”
She is due in court for a preliminary hearing on July 19.
