Heavy rains on Friday caused mudslides and road washouts in Garfield County.
Torrential rains fell at about 6 p.m. just north of Rifle, according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office. The slides and washouts moved heavy debris and rocks.
Highway 325, to Rifle Gap from Colorado 13, was among the roads impacted. It is closed. Colorado Department of Transportation crews are working to reopen the highway.
Flooding also occurred on County Road 233 where an approximate 200-yard mud and debris field has formed. There’s also flooding on County Road 251 along Rifle Creek.
Local travelers should use extreme caution.
